A workshop presented by the Australian and New Zealand Map Society

The Australian and New Zealand Map Society is proud to offer two workshops preceding GeoCart'2018.

The Historical Maps Online workshop will be held the morning of 4 September 2018 at the Victoria University of Wellington's School of Information Management. Chris Fleet, Map Curator of the National Library of Scotland will demonstrate using open-source tools and applications to put maps online and to create online map collections. This will cover such aspects as search and retrieval interfaces for maps and georeferenced viewers.

This half-day workshop precedes the ANZMapS Map Conservation workshop.

This workshop is designed for individuals in charge of online collections of map images as well as those with an interest in the process.

Chris worked at the Bodleian Library in Oxford, and the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, before joining the National Library of Scotland in 1994. His main focus at NLS has been on curating digital mapping.

Skill Level

It is assumed that most participants will be new to JavaScript, but you will be asked to complete tasks which will include instructions to write a little with JavaScript.

Venue

Historical Maps Online will be held in Room RH201 (2nd floor, Rutherford House) at Victoria University of Wellington's Pipitea Campus. This is located at 23 Lambton Quay in central Wellington.

Historical Maps Online is a free workshop. There is no registration fee.
